If Music Be...

“If music be the food of love, play on.” - William Shakespeare.

Music. It can be healing, destructive, full of passion, and emotion.
Music can mean everything, or have no meaning at all.
Music can connect and divide us.
Music can be annoying (*cough* Baby Shark *cough*) or make you feel like you are on top of the world.
Music is life!

Music has been a key part of my life and who I am for as long as I can remember; it has never left my side, even when I tried to push it away.

There is always something playing in my head - sometimes it has to do with a song I wish to learn, an emotion I am feeling, or just my reality in that moment.

What’s currently playing in a loop in my head, you ask? Blackout, from In the Heights, as we are currently on hour 16 with no power, and, in true In the Heights fashion, we are in the middle of a heat wave.

Music is something I use to write… never sharing it (yeah gotta get over that) but I would sit in my room and randomly put words on a page.

I don’t remember any of them except one. It was a 7-verse one that covered the entire Peter Pan story. Why 7-verses?? Great question!

Can we hear it? No - because the only thing I can remember about is the fact I had a line about Noodler and how his hands are on backwards (yes, he’s an actual character - not the most Disney-friendly thing, so he was cut out of their movie).

As I continue to use music to grow and as I start this writing journey to heal, it has made me think about how maybe it’s the right time to combine the two!

This year has been a lot about being vulnerable, and as a semi-adrenaline junky, the next vulnerable thing to do would be to try and write music again - and then actually share it.

The timeline: don’t have one (sorry to all of my “future” roadies).

The goal: just to live without fear.

The audience: myself! Just like this blog, I hope it helps and supports others and allows conversations to open, but in the end, I am doing this for me so that I can continue to heal and grow.
