Nesta...
Happy 1st birthday to my little spiky girl!
When I left my ex, I felt it was best for him to keep our dog, Hiker—not because I didn’t want him, but because I loved him with all my heart and still miss him every day. I truly believed they needed each other, and that staying together was what was best for both of them.
It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but at the time, I knew it was the right one.
As time passed, I realized I needed something to love beyond myself. Yes, I have my family, Aidan, and my friends—but as someone who has always loved animals, there’s no replacing the presence of an animal companion. The only way to fill that space is with one.
I also knew that, at this stage in my life, my companion needed to be low-maintenance so I could still give them everything they needed while managing my busy schedule.
Then came Nesta. It was love at first sight—even if it started with just a picture. After a “quick” two-hour drive to get her and another two hours back to Plattsville, my home felt a little less empty.
Nesta, you have brought so much light into my life—and into the lives of everyone who meets you.
You’ve brought so much joy to your Nana, Papa, Uncle T, and Auntie A. Your cousin Mia is completely infatuated with you, and I know your brother Hiker would have loved peaceful nights watching TV with you.
I feel so incredibly lucky that you came into my life. I’m so happy to celebrate your first birthday with you, my little spiky girl.
